Frank McAvennie – where do you start?

For some reason, Scottish media is awash with pundits of a green and grey persuasion who love nothing more than to talk about their favourite subject – Rangers.

This time “Macca” has declared “I told you” when claiming that Connor Goldson extended his contract with the club, not because he had predicted that he would stay but because he said thought that nobody would come in for him.

Bearing in mind he is talking about a centre-half who was at the heart of a defence that broke records last season and saw off several massive teams in getting to the Europa League final, added to this, he’s barely missed a minute in his four years at Rangers.

This is typical of a fan of Celtic, Goldson and the club both confirmed that he had offers from elsewhere and chose to stay put because he is now addicted to winning and being driven by the constantly high standards demanded of being a Ranger but why let a lie get in the way of a good story?

That McAvennie receives recompense for the nonsense that comes out of his mouth is a sad indictment of the level of punditry in Scotland, and yet, the thing is, we shouldn’t be surprised.

Stating opinion as fact has got several of his “friends” into trouble in the past as well, think Chris Sutton post Dunfermline, John Hartson on Alfredo Morelos  and Michael Stewart having to apologise for his verbal assault on previous PR chief Jim Traynor – I’ll not hold my breath that they’ll ever change but, why are they like this?
