Connor Goldson is no longer a Rangers player, after four seasons, 222 games and 20 goals, the 29-year old is out of contract.

There has never been any official announcement about what his plan for the future was, he has though spoken in the past about a legacy at Rangers but also doing what is best for his family, an interview given to BT Sport perhaps the most revealing this season:

“Yeah, it is. I’ve said this a lot of times before.

“But, at the same time, I want to see the club go to the next level. At the start of the season I said I wanted the club to win 56, 57, 58.

“I don’t want to be remembered for just 55. It is a place I want to stay but it needs to be right for me and my family.

“We’ve got another baby coming, another little boy. It needs to be right for everyone, not just me.”

Speculation has always seen him linked with a move closer to home; Aston Villa, West Brom and now Nottingham Forest the clubs mentioned most often. There is an acceptance that he will be taking a step back in club stature but will see an obvious inflation to his pay packet and be able to return home.

Sometimes fans forget that footballers are human too, it can be a nomadic lifestyle from a very early age and there is nothing wrong with wanting to settle down, Goldson is at the age where he knows his next contract is going to be his last big one and after barely missing a minute of training, never mind matches, his decision is an understandable one.

If he has decided to leave that is….

What a load of crap, he’s signed for another 4 seasons.

Yes, but the article was published about 5 hours before the announcement and was correct at the time, also, have another look at the last sentence…..

  • Spikey says:

    Really???

    • Gavin Kelly says:

The article was correct when it was published – before announcement – also, if you read the small print in the last sentence, I’ve just about covered myself! πŸ˜‰

  • Paul says:

    Awkward! 😬

  • Jim McQueen says:

So you think a 5 word sentence at the end covers you for a completely wrong report

What part of it is wrong? At the time of writing his contract had expired and there had been no announcement about his future and that the clubs mentioned were his most likely destination, if, he decided to leave. Nothing was made up or invented, it was purely an opinion that, if he did leave, it was understandable given circumstances. If you’ve read other reports including one last week on Gio’s comments, I’ve always personally thought that there was a chance that he could stay and that the only other reason I thought it was quiet was because he was maybe going to Villa. I also think the final sentence echoes those sentiments and suggests that I always thought he could stay. If you disagree, that’s entirely up to you, either way, he’s staying and I couldn’t be happier!

Your title says ‘Goldson Gone…’ thats nothing short of clickbait, regardless if you added something at the end.

        • Gavin Kelly says:

At the time of writing he was out of contract and no insight from usual sources that a deal was being signed.

  • Stewart Masson says:

How out of touch are you people? Goldson has signed a new 4 year contract. What an embarrassing piece of nonsense.

    • Gavin Kelly says:

The article was written and published before the announcement and it was correct when it was published
