The Sydney Super Cup fiasco has, to put it mildly, backfired spectacularly for the Rangers board. David Graham and Stewart Robertson in particular coming in for some pretty criticism over the last couple of days for a decision that just makes no sense at all. James Bisgrove explained the financial benefits but it did little, if anything, to soften the blow.

If we wanted to make money during the World Cup, why not arrange our own tournament with Premier League, La Liga or Bundesliga sides, our continental reputation has been restored and only this season we saw Arsenal and Real Madrid at Ibrox, surely it wouldn’t have been that difficult to find three teams that would be interested in keeping their fringe players not called up to their national teams busy?

The whole “Glasgow Derby” thing doesn’t bother me, we, and they, know that it is the Old Firm, every media outlet refers to the derby by it’s proper name, even the actual tour doesn’t really bother me if I’m being honest but, the way that Celtic has been allowed to control the narrative and make it look like it’s all for “Big Ange” has been a massive own goal.

For a start, it should never have been announced on the same day as it was confirmed that victims of abuse were given the go ahead to sue Celtic – we have been complicit in helping them bury that awful news – it could also have waited until after this weekend’s game with Aberdeen, which is supposed to mark our 150th anniversary, what should have been a celebration could now have a very different atmosphere all together.

It’s all very well having Rangers minded men in and around Ibrox and on the board but, what’s the point if they aren’t going to listen to the people who make the club, the ones they seem so hell bent on ignoring – the fans.
