The appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Rangers manager to replace the departed Steven Gerrard is the biggest open goal that Ross Wilson will ever face as sporting director.

It would be a universally welcomed decision and one that could well see the club better off in the long run, not only this, but it could also see us attract players that previously might not have been available.

The structure we have in the place now is designed to avoid a repeat of the failed – and disastrous – Pedro Caixinha experiment that cost us millions, players were bought for exorbitant fees that were never going to adapt to Scottish football and were never going to be good enough for Rangers.

With Van Bronckhorst though, the likes of Danilho Doekhi and Riechedly Bazoer might see the opportunity to play under a Dutch legend as one that is too good to turn down, centere-half is an area that we desperately need to address too.

Both players are available on pre-contract agreements in January which could make the timing even better if they know that their countryman could be their new boss.

Should we win the Scottish Premiership we might also return for Joey Veerman, again, a young, talented, Dutch midfielder wouldn’t have better mentors than Van Bronckhorst and Jan Wouters if reports are to be believed that the former Gers first team coach is making a return to the club.

Gio wouldn’t just be a figure head to attract good players though, he is more than that, his reputation precedes him, a reputation that makes him the best choice to replace Gerrard.
