Gers should move for midfielder who drew Gazza comparisons

|

In an ideal world Rangers will be able to make millions selling players without weakening the starting XI – that idea might not be as fanciful as it seems.

Nathan Patterson continues to be linked with a move to Everton, in the know social media accounts for the Merseysiders tipping a January move for the Scotland international but it is another of their targets that should have Ross Wilson sitting up and paying attention.

Glen Kamara is a nailed on starter in the “sitter” or number 6 role for Giovanni van Bronckhorst with Scott Arfield the preferred option alongside him, but there is a former Toffee who could be perfect for the role and the way that we play.

Ross Barkley has been tipped to return to the club where he made his name but, on loan, he would be the perfect number 8 who could link the midfield and attack – a Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund and the chance to win trophies could be enough to sway him, playing for a manager like Van Bronckhorst could be a deciding factor too.

Barkley doesn’t fit into a defensive set up or one that is as rigid as Rafa Benitez usually implements, the opportunity to have an almost free role from his favourite position would give him the chance to show just how good a player he is – at 28-years old, his next big move could be his last, a player once compared to Paul Gascoigne could do a lot worse than following in his footsteps.
