Ianis Hagi has been linked with a move to Bundesliga challengers, RB Leipzig, in a report in his homeland by Romanian outlet Digisport.ro

The context around the supposed interest is based on the east German side’s recent acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai, from their partner club, Red Bull Salzburg.

Szoboszlai is said to be injured and will not play until next month, at least, according to respected German football magazine Kicker.

It is for this reason that RB Leipzig are said to have drawn their attention to Rangers Hagi as he has similar qualities to their injured newcomer.

Digisport described the Romanian playmaker and son of the legendary Gheorghe, as ‘a diamond that can be polished’.

The report continued, ‘He is an offensive midfielder who can play both in the center and in attack, a good fixed phase performer and an excellent passer’, ‘with similar qualities to the Hungarian’.

However, it appears unlikely that now is the time for Hagi to be seeking his next move.

December was a very productive month for the player as he made a significant impact for Rangers including goals against Lech Poznan, St Johnstone and crucially, against Hibs in the only goal of that game.

Hagi Snr also spoke recently after rubbishing speculation that he was being considered as a potential manager for Celtic. On the family situation in Glasgow, he stated,

“I’m happy to be in Scotland. It’s really nice. I’m watching football at Ianis’ house on Sky all day long. I am learning. Also, I didn’t go to any of his games, I didn’t want to perturb any Covid protocol. It’s going perfect for Ianis here. We’re together. We’ll always be.”
