It’s almost a little anti-climactic but it appears as though the deal to bring Antonio Colak to Rangers is all but done, there is just one problem and one that Vital Rangers suggested yesterday – PAOK Salonika need to bring in their own striker before they will let the Croatian international leave.

Speaking after his side’s 4-0 friendly win over Go Ahead Eagles in which Colak played the second half, PAOK boss Razvan Lucescu explained what the issue was and why there was a hold up when everything seemed to be in place, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“I can tell you I know about an offer for Antonio from a good club that for him could be important. At the same time if Antonio leaves in the next few days it’s a problem as it leaves us with one striker.

“The official games are coming soon and it’s not easy to bring in new players. You need time. Time for negotiations, money, players that are available and not, players that have chemistry with us. So these are the two aspects and they are not so easy to be solved. From Antonio and from us.”

It’s an issue that is entirely understandable, for example, we wouldn’t sell Kemar Roofe or Alfredo Morelos without bringing someone in first, all it takes is for one injury and you’re in the position that we were at the end of last season.

The only good thing is that Colak has been training and has started playing games so he won’t be behind the curve in terms of fitness when he does eventually arrive – all eyes now turn to PAOK’s Twitter feed.
