January was a quiet month for Rangers in terms of departures, in fact, there was hardly a whisper about any potential offers for Michael Beale’s players.

As already covered by Vital Rangers, we have seen late interest in contract rebel Alfredo Morelos with Turkey’s transfer window set to close tomorrow but, as reported by Football Insider, the Colombian international will be going nowhere and there is, potentially, good news for Rangers fans:

“Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is not interested in a move to Turkey before their transfer window closes on Wednesday (8 February). Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor have been linked with a move for Morelos as they look to bring in a marquee signing late in the day.

“He is focused on finishing the season with the Scottish giants, who have not given up hope of securing him to a new contract. In turn, Morelos has privately not ruled out the possibility of signing what would be a surprise new deal with the club.

“The Colombia international is in the final months of his current Ibrox contract – which is set to expire at the end of this season.”

Morelos’s agent will be putting the feelers out but, with no European football, he will face a tough task persuading clubs even remotely on the same level as us to offer him the sort of money that he will be wanting, never mind ones from the top five leagues.

Question marks about his temperament plagued his early seasons but then it was his athleticism and whether or not he has the fitness and pace to play week in, week out, against better opposition. Even for Rangers, he is struggling to justify his £30,000+ per week contract.

What we saw against Hearts recently is exactly what we want from the talismanic striker and that sort of performance IS worthy of a pay rise, but he has to do it every week and start taking the sort of chances that he missed against St Johnstone and Ross County in games that became a lot closer than they should have been due to his profligacy in front of goal.

Beale already has his eye on a striker for the summer but Morelos should be doing everything he can to persuade him that it is just a backup he needs and that he can be the main man once again, regardless of where his future lies.
