Morelos no show – patience is a virtue

Another Copa America game, another game where Alfredo Morelos is stuck in the stands watching the strikers who were picked ahead of him fail to score again.

Colombia were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Argentina, losing on penalties, and if ever there was a saying that rang true it’s this one:

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”

Reinaldo Rueda appears to favour Duvan Zapata and former Gers target Santos Borre as a pairing in attack purely because of the clubs they play for and the leagues they are playing in, rather than because of what they are actually producing for the team.

Colombia have a good defence and midfield and for all that Zapata and Borre are good players, to only score one goal between them during the whole tournament – a penalty – isn’t really acceptable, but to then refuse to not even give Morelos a chance is just as bad by Rueda.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

We’ve seen at Rangers how he can play either as a central number nine on his own or play with a partner, we’ve also seen how effective he has become this season in dropping deep and bringing others into play – he also, even if not in goalscoring form, gives defenders a torrid 90 minutes.

Morelos loves playing for his country but after getting just eight minutes and not even making match day squads he surely has to be questioning whether or not it was worth his time, with a third/fourth place play-off still to come you would like to think that he would be rewarded for his patience.
