The unfortunate side effect of success is that other teams will want to poach your players.

Football has changed though and gone are the days when Brian Laudrup or Paul Gascoigne’s form in the Scottish Premiership would have been enough to tempt others into making bids, there is a different yard stick to which players are now measured – especially for those at Rangers.

I remember reading an interview with Alan Hutton once about a conversation he had with the man who scouted him for Tottenham Hotspur – a transfer fee that remains a club record but will surely be broken this summer – and how he never watched the Scotland right-back playing domestic football, it was his performances in the Champions League and for his country that sealed the deal.

With this in mind, Alfredo Morelos’s domestic form may not have been as scintillating as last term, however, it should have little relevance on his fee, if there is any doubt in this, potential suitors need only be referred to his man of the match displays against Royal Antwerp to see just how good a player he really is – on his day, he is a one man forward line capable of causing problems to the best and most experienced of centre-halves.

Will we get £20m for Morelos?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A bid of around £16million was said to have been turned down last summer, and if Morelos continues his recent form, Ross Wilson will feel truly vindicated as he looks to breach the magical £20m mark for a player nobody had heard of, but nobody will ever forget.
