A veterans’ charity has expressed its delight to have received the latest contribution from Rangers supporters to aid its ongoing essential fundraising.

Erskine cares for around 1000 ex-servicemen and women each year – providing care, companionship and support, tailored to individual needs.

The fantastic gesture came as a result of efforts from Gers fans – led by the Bridgeton Loyal RSC – to arrange a Red Arrows flypast in Glasgow to mark the imminent league title celebrations.

In the last couple of days, confirmation was provided that the Red Arrows plan would not be possible but one disappointment has turned into another major positive and benefit to very appreciative recipients.

Above and beyond

In a press report yesterday, a spokesperson for the charity, Sara Bannerman, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Erskine, paid tribute to the Rangers supporters gesture, stating:

“While Erskine empathise with those who contributed towards securing this visual spectacle and are sorry to hear it won’t happen, we are delighted and extremely grateful to be named as beneficiaries to part of the unused donations.”

“We salute the wider Rangers family who continue to go above and beyond in their unfaltering support of our cherished veterans and thank them for their generosity.”

The Bishopton based charity will make very good use of the £30k boost to their funds and the Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation is also set to benefit.

The RAF politely declined the request for its services, with a squadron leader stating that the Red Arrows are only generally available for state events and national occasions but made a point of congratulating the decision to pump the approximate £60,000.00 into charity as an alternative course of action.
