Gers finding a way to “roll over teams” as Gerrard hype train steams on

|

Rangers continued their impressive Scottish Premiership campaign with a closer-than-it-should-have-been 2-1 win over Aberdeen last weekend and one former Ger was impressed with ho relentless Steven Gerrard’s side have become.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton has praised how Rangers are coping with everything being thrown at them as teams try to unsettle their iron curtain back four.

So what has Hutton said?

When asked about Rangers run in the league this season, he said:

“It’s unbelievable. I mean, obviously, the stats are there for everybody to see, they’ve just gone from strength to strength.

“Overall in the game, I thought Aberdeen at the start did make it difficult for them, I thought it was going to be a tough afternoon.

“I think teams now, after watching the Celtic game and seeing how they played against Rangers, with the two up front, to try and hold back the full-backs, it seems to be working recently.

“Aberdeen tried the same thing with playing the two up top with one just sat in behind, they made it difficult, but Rangers just showed how strong they are at the moment. They were willing to wait and be patient.

“Obviously the penalty and the sending off was a big part of the game but they seem to be going from strength to strength at the moment and just really kind of rolling over teams as well.”

So is Hutton correct?

Absolutely, every week Rangers have been able to find a way to get over the line, against Aberdeen when they were trying to stop Steven Davis from building the play from the back, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara dropped into central positions to take over.

Can Rangers go through the league unbeaten?

Yes

Yes

No

No

There was one moment of slackness where a catalogue of errors led to them pulling a goal back but the result was never in any serious doubt after that, the biggest disappointment was that we didn’t add to the goals scored by Alfredo Morelos.

By targeting the full-backs all they did was allow Ryan Kent to have more space and he took full advantage of it, and then, with ten-men, Borna Barisic and James Tavernier were given the freedom of Pittodrie, how we only scored twice is beyond me, the main thing at this stage of the season remains the three points though and, as soon as the final whistle blew, preparations for Motherwell began in earnest.
