Ramsey numbers prove we were right to be patient

Aaron Ramsey has now shown, twice, that his fitness is close to where it needs to be to make a real impact in the title run in, the Wales international being replaced after 84 minutes against Dundee.

What was impressive about Ramsey is that he did exactly what was asked of him playing either off the right-hand side, or through the middle behind the strikers.

Not only did he score the goal that got us back level and into the game but he was a constant threat in the opposition’s box with five attempts on goal, three on target, two off – when he regains full sharpness, he will only get better too.

Only Connor Goldson’s performance was rated higher than Ramsey’s on Sofascore, there were few players who emerged with any credit from the game but they were pivotal in dragging others around them, leaving Alfredo Morelos on his own in the box is never going to be a successful strategy so seeing both of them at different times making runs to drag defenders away has to be something that Giovanni van Bronckhorst takes note of.

We signed Ramsey for a reason and, hopefully, on the other side of the international break we will see the best of him. So far, his touch has looked decent as does his work rate but it is frustrating not being able to pick him in every game, I get a feeling that his minutes will be prioritised in domestic football though where his ability to find a space or team-mate with a pass could be the difference, as it was on Sunday against Dundee.
