Rangers’ Borna Barisic has insisted that he is unhappy with his current situation but he was diplomatic on his current status within the squad.

Due to the form and impact of Calvin Bassey, Barisic has lost his place as first choice on the left flank so it is up to the former Osijek man to prove he can recapture his best when given the chance.

He was speaking from the Croatian international camp ahead of their upcoming games against Slovenia and Bulgaria.

As reported by Rangers Review, the 29-year old stated when asked about present life at Ibrox:

“As far as Rangers goes, I’m still playing plenty of minutes because we are playing every three or four days at the moment.”

“I haven’t played in a few games and I’m not happy about that, but it’s not a drama.”

“It’s been a fairytale for me at Rangers and some things have changed now. But it’s nothing terrible.”

Levels

No player should be happy about sitting on the bench so there is nothing sensational or controversial in what Barisic has said. He has probably struck the right tone in regard to his lack of game time but deep down he will know that is because his level of performance had dropped significantly, including the nightmare at Parkhead, allowing Bassey to come in and take advantage as well as adding consistency to his game in defence as well as attack.

In order for the Croatian to reclaim his spot, he has hard work ahead. His commitment isn’t in question, so it is all about his response as well as his application in training and then more importantly when he does get on the pitch.

As we now approach April and the last two months of the domestic season, Borna Barisic will have a part to play but doubt remains if he will be able to win back the starting role that he craves.
