The loan signing of Aaron Ramsey was one that sent shockwaves around European football, even more so when it was revealed that we had negotiated first refusal on a permeant deal.

The Wales international hasn’t had an easy time of it since arriving are Rangers for one reason or another but after months of inactivity was always going to need time to get up to speed, however, his impact over the last few games has been closer to what we were expecting.

There have been reports that Juventus would be willing to waive any fee and write off the last year of his contract to get him off the books and for all that his £400,000 a week wage is, slightly, out of our price range, persuading him to stay a couple of years longer might not be as impossible as first thought.

Can Rangers still win the league?

Planet Sport recently reported that Ramsey has settled into life as a Rangers player and he is exactly what we have been crying out for in a midfielder for the last few years, a genuine goal threat who can link the attack. It was no coincidence that after he went off in the Old Firm we didn’t look like creating anything, that a number of cut-backs didn’t find a target was equally frustrating given that he thrives on that type of service.

The days of having players like Jack Simpson, Brandon Barker and Cedric Itten taking up space in the squad should be long gone, and it’s the same with Scott Arfield and Steven Davis. We should trust the players coming through to supplement the squad so that our core of senior players can be stronger, adding someone of the calibre of Ramsey in the summer would be a real statement of intent.
