Two teams not in Europe this season, and needing the money met at Ibrox for a glamour friendly. Charlie Adam’s Liverpool visited Ibrox for a challenge match.

It was a good opportunity for both teams to give some fringe players some much needed match fitness. Although with that said, Rangers still fielded a fairly strong side for the match.

Five of the players who started the league game against St Mirren played from the start, namely McGregor, Whittaker, Wallace, Davis and Jelavic. The six players coming in were skipper David Weir making his return, Broadfoot, Ortiz, McCulloch, Mckay making his Ibrox debut, and Bedoya.

Liverpool fielded far from their strongest side but did have the likes of ex Rangers youngster Danny Wilson, ex Celtic man Craig Bellamy, and Andy Carroll. Ex Ranger Charlie Adam came off the bench, as did Dutchman Dirk Kuyt.

Rangers got the only goal of the game in the first half, and it was veteran Lee McCulloch who grabbed the goal in the 20 minute after squeezing the ball in at the left hand post despite losing his footing.

Idiot Craig Bellamy was making himself popular amongst the Rangers fans as usual after he had slapped McCulloch. Justice then that McCulloch grabbed the goal, giving him the last laugh.

Charlie Adam came off the bench in the 64th minute and got a heroes welcome. A great success story, Adam was a product of Murray Park and has went on to join one of the biggest teams in the World.

Liverpool began to dominate in the latter stages of the game but they couldn’t find the breakthrough and Rangers secured a fine 1-0 victory over the Premiership giants.
