From the very first game that Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge of Rangers there has been one consistent selection when all his players have been available and that is the 6, 8, 10 triumvirate of Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo.

It’s a good mix of personality and ability, they have also been playing together for a few years now and know each other’s games well.

The addition of Aaron Ramsey will only strengthen this group because the three won’t be expected to play every game, we have lost creativity in the past when either Arfield or Aribo has been missing, this shouldn’t be the case now.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Rangers defender, Alan Hutton, reckons that the Wales international will slot seamlessly into GvB’s team and that the role currently performed by Arfield is perfect for him:

“Wow. I mean, a player of his quality, we know what he’s capable of.

“It really depends on how Van Bronckhorst wants to play. Does he want to play a 4-2-3-1? I think that could suit him better. I like him in the attacking third of the pitch.

“He can score goals, he can see passes and he can be that difference-maker. Possibly Arfield, as well as he has done, I think you have to have competition there. You have to have different profiles of players.

“He’s very capable of playing at a high level so it comes down to how the manager sees the team lining up.

“Is he going to go 4-3-3 where he will play in midfield? Or does he change the formation where he plays in a more forward role?

“He can play a number of position. He is very technically gifted. I think he can adapt to any formation.”

Ramsey, like Arfield, covers a lot of ground but loves nothing more than being in and around the box or getting on the end of cut backs and lay offs, his record of a goal/assist every three over a 500 game career is an incredible record for a midfielder.

In Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal team, the one-touch build up play was known throughout the football world and it will be hoped that Ramsey can bring some of that to Rangers in combination with the likes of Aribo and Ryan Kent, we have a hugely talented player on our hands, we just have to get him on the pitch.
