Former club captain Barry Ferguson thinks Ryan Kent would be a key signing for Rangers this summer, speaking to the PLZ Soccer Show earlier this week.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard has made no secret of the fact he is keen on signing the winger again at the end of this season, having spent the last year on loan from Liverpool.

There are major obstacles to getting that deal done, but Ferguson feels the recruitment team at the club should be going all out to capture him.

Speaking on the PLZ Soccer Show, the iconic midfielder said:

I think it’s a key signing. He will be at the top of Steven Gerrard’s wanted list. Obviously, Gerrard is going to have a good relationship with Liverpool, whether that’s back for another year on loan.

When he went out on loan previously, he struggled. But, I have been really impressed with him. He can win games. Really like him as a player. He’s the right sort of character as well.

So, I am hopeful Rangers can get him back. Whether it’s a loan or a permanent, I’m not really bothered, as long as he’s playing in a Rangers jersey next season.

Ryan Kent’s form this season has been sensational, his double award nomination this week is proof enough of that, and if we can add him to the squad in the summer then it’d be a real boost to Steven Gerrard’s hopes of catching Celtic next term.

With six goals and nine assists he could have provided a bit more of a consistent direct goal threat but his all round play has bamboozled defenders for months now.

Hopefully the club can make the deal happen and delight every Rangers supporter.
