BBC Scotland pundit Tam McManus believes Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley will not play in defence together again at Rangers after their horror show away to Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

The duo were punished by Killie twice throughout the 90 minutes with Worrall caught in possession for their equaliser and McAuley struggling to deal with Jordan Jones for their eventual winner.

Neither looked convincing throughout and it looked like a central defensive pairing better left forgotten as we head into important fixtures.

Former Hibernian man McManus agrees, taking to Twitter to share his thoughts.

It raises the question of what Steven Gerrard is going to do against Livingston on Sunday. There are fitness issues facing regular centre-back Connor Goldson, but is it time to bring Nikola Katic in from the cold and give him a start alongside McAuley?

I personally don’t see the point in persevering with Worrall given his intention to return to Nottingham Forest and his lacklustre, inconsistent form throughout the season.

Fans have had enough, especially after his costly errors on Wednesday and investing time and energy into Katic is surely the way forward?

The Croatian isn’t the finished article yet and he is not a magic solution to our problems but he needs more game time and more faith shown in him from the manager.
