Tonight, Motherwell have released a squad update confirming the futures of several players – including Rangers Jake Hastie.

The 23-year old has hopes of proving himself to Steven Gerrard but that appears to be an uphill task giving the contrasting fortunes and form of player and club.

Hastie was on the list of players departing Fir Park and now the player faces a fight to secure his future.

Having returned to ‘Well on loan, he could not rediscover the form of his breakthrough season there, which won him a move to Ibrox.

Despite tasting Europa League qualifying action early in his Ibrox stint, Hastie would soon be sent on loan for regualr game time.

A spell at Rotherham followed for the first half of the 19/20 season and then he went back to Motherwell for the full season, just finished.

The Scotland U21 cap recently told the Daily Record:

“I’m just going to go back to Rangers and see what happens.”

“I want to go back and prove myself, definitely, 100 per cent.”

“There has been feedback from Rangers, they always come out and watch the games I’ve played and assess them, stuff like that.”

Hastie reflected on the ttile success at Ibrox, stating:

“I’m buzzing for them this year for them to win the league. I’m really happy for them.”

“They’ve done it in style. They’ve been brilliant this season, absolutely brilliant.”

A parting of the ways could be more likely despite having two years left on his contract, but as things stand Jake Hastie will re-join the Gers for pre-season training in July.
