Pedro Mendes – Either shape up, or ship out.

It’s almost like a taboo subject amongst the Rangers support – Something you are allowed to think, but most certainly not say. If you are brazen enough to say it, you will be met with a sea of spin and half-truths to try and counter your argument.

This is the reality when you try and point out an obvious fact – Pedro Mendes is becoming a complete waste of a jersey.

The Portuguese playmaker takes home £30,000 per week during a time when our wages are capped at £15,000 per week for new signings or new contracts. We are also sitting in a position where we are chronically short of central defenders.

Mendes has quality – there is no questioning his ability – but if you are honest (..and that’s the key here.) he has had no more than 6 or 7 decent games for Rangers…thus far, not one of them have occurred this season.

The man backs out of 50/50’s at every opportunity, continues to attempts spraying complicated passes around the park that seldom find their men and this season in particular – the pace on almost every ball he has played has been way off. For £30,000, much more is required.

Not only is it difficult to remember more than a handful of good performances, can anyone recall him having a good game twice in a row?

Much more is required, and if a significant improvement is not made before January, then he must be shipped out as soon as possible, especially if his wages could be used to fund the signing of a centre-half.

Early days, I know, and whilst he isn’t the only player under-performing just now, he is an expensive luxury that has comprehensively failed to justify his price-tag or show the same consistency in form we do in paying £120k into his bank account each month.
