Is it time for Youth at RFC?

Apologies for the lack of a proper match report for the Kilmarnock game. It was yet another poor away performance and I couldn’t bring myself to write a proper report shortly after.

Our away form against lesser opposition has been an issue for a few years now, and despite an excellent run at the end of last season, it seems like normal service has resumed.

But what is the issue? Motivation? Attitude? I think so. Another issue is the fact that many players have absolutely no competition waiting in the wings to take their place if they perform poorly.

The answer? Play the Danny Wilson’s, Gregg Wylde’s and Jamie Ness’s of this world – Wasn’t that what we were supposed to be doing this season?

We’ve shown already that an experienced player being played out of position will be favoured to nurturing one of the brightest defensive prospects in Scottish Football (Danny Wilson), we’ve proven already that we’ll avoid playing youngsters at any great length if we can get away with it.

It all smacks of contradiction when you read THIS . I questioned at the time whether our intention to blood youngsters was money driven or it was actually, for a change, just a wee bit of foresight from the club.

Clearly, it was money driven. We will wait until we’ve no choice BUT to play younger players before we actually do.

One thing you are almost guaranteed from youngsters is heart, determination and a will to win and impress.

At Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon, we lacked all of those things. We again found ourselves down to ten men and can have no arguments about that. Although Mendes being ON the field recently seems just as bad as ten men.

What do you think though? Is it about time we brought in the younger players to replace some of the underperformers in the squad?
