Rangers Nathan Patterson could yet have an impact on the rest of the season despite the club’s appeal against his ban being dismissed.

Patterson and four other Gers players – Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear will sit out the next four domestic games.

This comes as a result of the six game ban handed down – and upheld – by the SFA following the well documented covid regulation breach.

The ban consists of six games in full – with two suspended.

It has been assumed that Patterson’s season is effectively over, however this is not the case.

His hopes lie with the remainder of Gers Scottish Cup campaign starting this Sunday against St Johnstone at Ibrox.

As it stands, the banned players will miss that game, the final Old Firm clash of the season on 2nd May, the trip to Livingston and the ‘trophy day’ meeting with Aberdeen.

Patterson especially, will have one eye on the last week of the campaign and that game against Stephen Glass’ Dons.

Further Scottish Cup momentum would mean the semi-final would take the place of the last game of the season in regard to the ban, providing more scope and squad selection for Steven Gerrard who would also have those players available if his team make it to the Scottish Cup Final.

That is the aim that all in the Rangers camp are firmly supporting.
