This one appears to have slipped under the radar but former Leeds and Man City defender Danny Mills aimed a shot at Connor Goldson on his decision to stay at Ibrox.

In what was more of a direct, abrupt opinion rather than matter of fact, the England international suggested that Goldson was left with no other option than to take the new contract available at Ibrox, despite the speculation that was linking him to interest from Nottingham Forest and West Brom.

Mills told Football Insider:

“It’s probably because he had nowhere else to go. Or the offers he was getting weren’t as good as what was on offer at Rangers.”

“Rangers think, ‘We’ve got a player here, we like him, know what he offers, the manager seen him over the last six months or so’.”

“It’s one of those where he probably thought he was going to get a better move and that hasn’t materialised. He’s had to say, I’ll have to stick where I am and settle with what I’ve got.”

Inaccurate

In terms of what was said by the club and Goldson, the comments from Mills are disrespectful given the reality, as well as the ability that the Rangers man clearly possesses. It is simply hard to fathom that he would not have had any other offers on the table.

As it was, family and happiness as well as that desire to win was the catalyst, thankfully, for the relationship between Connor Goldson and Rangers to be extended for another four years.

That was the clear message from the former Brighton defender, as summed up with this quote:

“We’re all settled here, my family is settled here and football-wise I’m happy. I thought this was the right decision to make and I’m really happy to have made it.”
