That was the headline from the Scotsman.

Following fan celebrations back in March when Rangers clinched the Premiership title, a war of words emanated.

Much was said before, during and after the mass gathering at Ibrox and at George Square in the city centre.

In the aftermath, Scotland’s national clinical director spoke out on what had taken place – at a time when the pandemic recovery was not the stage we are now with further progress on the vaccine rollout:

Jason Leitch stated, “We have no specific intelligence that mass gatherings from last weekend for example – the weekend before now – have led specifically to outbreaks in Lanarkshire.”

“We do have a few Test and Protect cases who were at mass gatherings as we’ve said this week.”

“We’ve got nothing specific of a large scale outbreak as a result of those activities.”

Consistency

In recent weeks, the Holyrood election was carried out.

Since the above events, in March, there have been several large gatherings and examples of public expression for varying causes.

From political demonstrations, to football celebrations, to young people congregating in Glasgow’s parks.

Covid – and related transmission levels – doesn’t discriminate as determined by the motive of an event.

After Scotland’s justice minister spoke out this week pleading with Rangers supporters not to gather, hopefully consistency is applied across the board.
