Defender Mark Beevers likely won’t be joining Rangers this summer with Bolton ruling out the sale of the 28-year-old, according to The Bolton News.

The Express reported last Tuesday that he had emerged as a target for Steven Gerrard, who is eager to add another centre-back to his squad to provide depth in support of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson.

However, Wanderers are not interested in selling with chairman Ken Anderson confirming to The Bolton News that they will be fending off any interest in the player, making a move difficult for Rangers.

Beevers was almost ever present for Bolton last season, making 44 league appearances and helping them narrowly avoid relegation from the English Championship.

The news comes after reported interest in the likes of Curtis Tilt, Jake Cooper and Kean Bryan have all come to nothing. It seems that signing a third defender this summer is proving to be something of a stumbling block.

Bruno Alves and David Bates left the club earlier this summer and it was confirmed yesterday that Fabio Cardoso had also had his contract terminated.

That leaves little depth in the position and it’s now crucial that the Gers do the business required in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
