Former Rangers star Lee McCulloch has urged the Ibrox club to make a move for Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Northern Ireland international has been a key factor in Kilmarnock’s rise up the league table over the last 18 months and has plenty of potential to improve further.

McCulloch helped in Jones’ development when he was manager of the Rugby Park outfit and he reckons that Jones could be the missing piece of Steven Gerrard’s attacking puzzzle.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the former Gers midfielder said:

Jordan is a Kilmarnock player, but he could be the one who could unlock defences with teams now sitting in against Rangers.

When Rangers struggled in the draw against Dundee that’s the type of situation where you need a bit of magic that Jones could provide.

When teams sit deep against you — and I never went past anyone in my life — you need someone to go and beat two or three players and Jones is tailor made for that.

He would maybe take a month to settle at Ibrox, but in the long run he’d make Rangers money as well as benefit from him on the pitch.

Jones is the one who will go past two or three players and maybe open the door for Alfredo Morelos or Kyle Lafferty, so it’s a no-brainer to get him.

That’s certainly high, and detailed, praise of the 24-year-old and certainly interesting ahead of the January transfer window.

You’ll remember that Rangers had a bid rejected for the player last January. Twelve months down the line, is he worth a renewed effort to bring him to Glasgow?

With Eros Grezda not exactly living up to expectations, Glenn Middleton still young and learning and little other option on the left wing, it’s worth considering at least.
