The rumour that Rangers are considering a move for Jack Butland to be the next number one at Ibrox has never been denied by the club, usually, if a story is nonsense, someone puts it to bed pretty quickly but not on this occasion.

As a former England international, the Crystal Palace keeper has a good pedigree and he certainly ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being able to carry the weight of expectation needed to replace a genuine Gers legend.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Sky Sports reporter, Michael Bridge, has urged the 29-year old to make the move to Glasgow, if he is given the opportunity:

“That would be great for Jack Butland, and it would be a huge test for him in what would be a cauldron of noise. Second is bottom in Scotland, but that is certainly one he should consider at his stage of his career to join a club of Rangers’ stature.”

The biggest issue with Butland is that he hasn’t played much football in the last couple of seasons at Palace and that it is hard to gauge exactly where his form is at, on the other hand, with Jon McLaughlin, despite being a deputy, he has played over 30 times and we know that he can be trusted.

At least Butland has experience of playing nine times for England to his name including games against France, Germany and Italy losing just once in the process. He’s obviously a decent keeper, it’s just a question of whether or not he has what it takes to line up for a club that, as Bridge rightly says, demands nothing but first place.
