Rangers took first place following the original Group stage games with victory over the hosts and then a 1-1 draw with Legia Warsaw, with Zilina booking their place in the final with victories over West Bromwich Albion and Hertha Berlin.
The win was all the more impressive when you think the youngsters were without regulars Robby McCrorie, Aidan Wilson, Kyle Bradley, Glenn Middleton and Zak Rudden who are involved in pre-season preparations with Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad this summer.
Fans reacted positively to news of their appearance in the final to begin with and things only got better with such a comprehensive win in the final 90 minutes of the tournament.
Atakayi opened the scoring in the game, with Houston making it 2-0 from the penalty spot. Dallas added a third before we wrapped the matchup as Atakayi completed his brace in the second half.
