Another disappointment on the pitch from Rangers and another unconvincing response from the manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman could not inspire any resurgence from his team during the game then afterwards, his initial explanation was just as lacking and merely a continuation of what we have heard too many times before.

Gio is keen to express a requirement for his team to do better in certain ways and even stated the need for change but the problem is that as much as he can see it, he is proving that he can’t do anything effective in terms of a solution. In today’s latest example, St Johnstone’s opener came late in the first half so the Gers had the half time break and then all of the second period to produce the goods. They failed.

The Saints’ second arrived just after the hour mark, by then the outcome seemed inevitable and that is what happened. James Tavernier pulled one back but Rangers did not have the craft or guile to at least find a draw. We have seen this before, too many times now.

Rangers are now seven points behind Celtic and starring into the abyss in terms of the title race with the risk of confirming a procession for the Parkhead side.

Change is well and truly required in a few aspects at Ibrox and this was Gio’s stance when he was quizzed on how he makes it happen:

“We need to change it. As I’ve said. We make chances and don’t score and make it difficult for ourselves by conceding two goals.”

“We don’t have to hide the responsibilities we have. When you are at this club you have to win.”

It’s ok knowing what needs to happen but Giovanni van Bronckhorst is not the man to be able to turn things around, he has run out of answers and soon will be out of time.
