Alfredo Morelos has spoken of his contentment with life on and off the pitch at Rangers.

At this time, the Colombian international who is currently on duty with the national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, is in good form on pitch with his much maligned temperament firmly under control.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, the buffalo spoke of his happiness at Ibrox, his Champions League ambition and a pragmatic outlook on the future, including any possible move.

The impression given was one of a settled player and a man happy with his personal life:

“I was named Player of the Month in December, I’ve been scoring goals and I feel good physically. I’m just thinking about scoring more goals and God will decide what happens in the future.”

“I’ll keep working hard and fighting. I’m also in the Colombia squad now, so I hope to stay there – we’ll see how it goes. I hope it all goes as well as possible. Right now I’m fully focused on Rangers.”

“I feel very happy in Glasgow, as do my family. My daughter is really settled here, I feel very pleased. Rangers really welcomed me when I joined, as did the fans, so I feel really happy here.”

“Playing in the Champions League is a source of motivation for me. We’re going to fight for that.”

Ambition

In this interview, Morelos was never likely to speak openly about wishes to play in the Premier League or La Liga, etc. What he did say shows evidence of further maturity from Rangers highest ever European goalscorer.

His words on fighting on the pitch and realising that elusive Champions League return is what the supporters want to hear and it has to be the motivation for the players who went close last time round. On a potential big money transfer, that will be out of Morelos’ hands and will be dependent on his exploits on the pitch.

If he does shoot the team to title retention, an excellent offer may well come from a bigger league and the increased financial rewards that come with it. In the meanwhile, he is happy to keep his focus on the immediate priority, Rangers, and the rest will generally take care of itself.

Improved communication with Spanish speakers Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Roy Makaay is another positive of the recent regime change and his stated pleasure of working with the coaches provides further encouragement.

The story of Alfredo Morelos and Rangers still has another few pages to turn.
