Morelos pictured, but it’s not the one we all want to see

Alfredo Morelos being seen in training is a huge positive for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, he might not be in taking part in full sessions but he should be ready for when the season kicks off at least.

The Colombian international looks in decent shape having returned early from his holidays to continue his rehabilitation under the watchful eye of the Rangers medical and conditioning team and, unlike last season, he will be hoping to hit the ground running rather than having to run in an airport carpark to keep fit.

There is no doubt that we missed towards the end of the season having seen the best of him under Gio, reports that Antonio Colak could be joining likely to only spur El Bufalo on even further.

Under Steven Gerrard and Van Bronckhorst, we have always looked better with two goalscorers on the park at the same time, and I include Fashion Sakala in this, so it will be interesting to see if Morelos and Colak – if he signs – will ever be paired together in the same way that Morelos and Roofe have been in the past.

Other than him being back on the training pitch with his team-mates, the other picture that would be warmly received would be one of him holding a new contract with a pen in his hand ready to sign, with just one year left on his current deal, it remains top of Ross Wilson’s list of priorities and one that I still think we will see announced before the window closes.

A fit and happy Morelos is a dangerous one and one that I’d back to fire us into the Champions League, we’re halfway there at least.
