A Colombian journalist has claimed that Porto have “agreed on the basis” of a fee with Rangers for the transfer of Alfredo Morelos.

Pipe Sierra of WinSportsTV made the claim this afternoon on his personal Twitter account adding to the growing speculation around the Gers striker.

The Tweet reads:

“Alfredo Morelos (25) has already agreed on the personal terms of his transfer to FC Porto.”

“There are still differences with the bonuses that Rangers have asked for, but the clubs are working at this time on the basis of a €12mil net fee.”

Unlikely

That works out at approximately £10.3 million which seems a very unrealistic price for Rangers to settle for – that will not happen.

It is more apparent that a deal could be made in the region of 12-15mil with further conditions attached to any prospective sale.

Steven Gerrard is on record as saying that any suitors will need to knock on the door with plenty of money – none of his title winning players will be sold on the cheap.

Yes, there is a requirement for the club to trigger player trading with the important aim of self sufficiency getting closer but at the same time, there are several quality assets within Gerrard’s squad and from a position of relative strength, any exits will only be sanctioned if it is a profitable, productive deal for Rangers.

The other issue is the temporary disconnect between player and club with Morelos on duty with Colombia at Copa America.

In that void, noise and speculation is going to grow further.

Expect a couple more twists and turns before ‘The Buffalo’ is back on the Auchenhowie training pitch.
