He will have watched on intently four and a half years ago as Steven Gerrard strode forward to take his seat at the top table alongside then chairman Dave King but tomorrow, Mick Beale will have his own moment of recognition and history in the famous Ibrox Blue Room.

The Londoner is the 18th permanent manager of Rangers Football Club, in what is a critical time for him personally as well as in general at Ibrox with the club needing to respond to significant challenges on and off the pitch.

A plethora of questions will come the way of Beale at the headline press conference and beyond was has already been revealed via Sky Sports exclusive interviews with the 42-year old, his responses will make for very interesting analysis with plenty to be chewed over. It was notable that Beale chose to talk up his team as winners, citing the 2021 league title, the Scottish Cup and Europa League Final as key achievements within the last 18 months but he was also candid enough to acknowledge that second is last in Glasgow. Nowhere.

The former Ibrox first team coach is a clever man. He will know what is required to have his team firing as required. He will rightfully believe in himself and his staff to get more out of the side but that will only go so far. Unless smart signings are made, with quality essential, then the journey ahead will be an ardous one, especially as it will be far from straightforward as it is.

On Thursday afternoon, Mick Beale will speak with authority and enthusiasm on his Rangers aspirations. He will rightfully believe that he has what is takes to deliver success but that can only be backed up with evidence out on the pitch in the weeks and months ahead.
