With Rangers presented an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Premiership to one point, the team failed when it mattered.

The quality and capability of this Rangers team is not in doubt but how many times will we shoot ourselves in the foot?

Sunday promised to be another bright day with Celtic slipping up away to Hibs at lunchtime and despite Rangers taking control of the game against Motherwell at 2-0, they managed to throw away another two points.

The second half performance just wasn’t good enough and questions will also be asked of the managers decisions with John Lundstram playing out the game in central defence as well as only one sub utilised.

Baffling, disappointing, lacklustre and all the rest – the individual mistakes just compounded the misery, as did two disallowed goals for Gio van Bronckhorst’s team.

From downing Dortmund on Thursday to not getting the job done in the league – again. This really cannot continue if Rangers are to stay in the title race. Until we get to a point where the team put a winning run together, the outcome appears inevitable.

Very few of us want to be pessimistic and downbeat but we can only go on what we are seeing. Two steps forward and one back will only get us so far and without capitalising on rivals slipping up, it will just be more of the same.

After three days of sheer joy and positivity over the Europa League progression, it is back down to earth with a very big sore bump.
