From Ibrox to the Premier League? Surprise move south on the cards for fringe striker

|

Released Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude is said to be on the verge of a surprise move to Premier League new-boys Watford.

The London-born 19-year old sent an emotional message on social media, full of gratitude to the Gers fans and his coaches at the club, following the confirmation of his exit.

Even if the move to the Hornets was to initially be part of their development squad, it still presents a fantastic opportunity for Mebude to grow and prosper in a different environment, to make the most of a massive second chance.

Today, the Record reported:

“Watford are keen to sign freed Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude.”

“The Scotland Under-19 International is poised to join the English Premier League new boys.”

“The 19-year-old had a loan spell with Queen of the South last season.”

“Mebude, however, made more headlines for being part of the Rangers Covid five who broke lockdown rules last season.”

“He is now set for a dream move with the Hornets.”

Of course, the cloud hanging over the player is his role in the Covid breach controversy last season, when he was suspended along with several others, including first-teamers, Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu.

Then on loan at Palmerston Park, it was the final blow for Mebude’s prospects at Ibrox and he now moves on to pastures new.

On the last day of the season at Rugby Park in 2018/19, he was handed his Rangers debut as a 17-year old, by Steven Gerrard.

This suggested that there was hope and serious potential for the future but that did not materialise, not at Ibrox anyway.

Respect

The Scotland youth international signed off with the following:

“Making my debut at Rangers was a moment I’ll never forget and I will forever be grateful to the Gaffer and 1st team staff for that.”

“The fans throughout my time at the club have shown me a lot of support from a young age and I appreciate that.”
