Ross Wilson continues to tick off Vital Rangers list of things he needs to do, his latest signing being one of the easiest decisions he’ll have made since joining from Southampton.

On the weekend that Allan McGregor had arguably his worst game for the club, Jon McLaughlin was announced as having signed a new deal that will take him up to the summer of 2024.

This now suggests that the Scotland international is being lined up to take over from McGregor as number one, rarely putting a foot – or hand – wrong whenever he has been asked to cover for the Gers legend.

Speaking to the club’s website the 34-year old said of his time at Ibrox:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club so far, and being a part of the team which won the title last season will live with me forever.

“I want the opportunity to be a part of future success at this club, while hopefully also adding more Scotland caps to what I have already.”

If he is playing regularly for Rangers he will have a better chance of challenging Craig Gordon for the Scotland role, the Hearts keeper has been in fine form but can’t go on forever, plus, there isn’t a lot of depth in the position outside of the older generation of stoppers.

It would have been a huge gamble to potentially have to replace our two first choice keepers in the summer so, by making sure we have at least one pair of safe hands, we know we don’t have to worry about that position – for the next couple of years at least.
