Barrie McKay has been nominated for PFA Scotland’s Young Player of the Year award.

With Martyn Waghorn and Lee Wallace both nominated for the Championship Player of the Year award, McKay now joins them in the overall youngster category.

He finds himself up against Hibernian duo Jason Cummings and John McGinn, and Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.

The overall winner will be announced at the annual Awards Dinner at the Hilton Glasgow on Sunday May 1.

McKay also finds himself in their Goal of the Season category, joined by James Tavernier – and fans can vote by clicking here.

Responding to the nomination, McKay admitted it was the icing on the cake for him after a fantastic year, the Official Site have him quoted as saying.

‘I am delighted and it shows you the difference a year can make and to be voted for by my fellow peers is a nice feeling. If it`s voted for by the fans then it is still as special but to be noticed by the other players that you have been doing well is a good feeling. I have played a lot this year and you could class it as a really good season for me personally with my goals, my assists and the fact I have contributed quite a lot this year. I think with winning the Rangers` Young Player of the Year and then winning this one would put the icing on the cake. I voted for John McGinn for Young Players of the Year and Jason Cummings for Player of the Year. They have both been outstanding for their clubs and Cummings has obviously got a lot of goals and scored quite a few against us as well and McGinn got his Scotland call up and deserved it.’

With him also up for the Goal award, he went on to say.

‘I was quite disappointed not to have been in the voting for the Rangers Goal of the Season because I would have beaten Tav! But to be nominated for Goal of the Season out of all the leagues is a special feeling as well and if I did win that then I`ll beat Tav again. I`ve had a look at a few and they are all really quality strikes so if it does win it has beaten some tough competition.’
