Allan McGregor has been in sparkling form this season, and he has needed to be with Jon McLaughlin posting 10 clean sheets in 11 games as back up.

The 39-year old has yet to commit to next season but few would be surprised if he stays around for another season and one former Rangers star has backed him to make another comeback, for Scotland, as the national team get set for tournament football for the first time since 1998.

In what year did Allan McGregor make his Rangers debut?

Brian Laudrup, writing in his Daily Mail column, believes that Steve Clarke should at least ask the question with his current number one struggling with injury:

“The Rangers keeper has been outstanding. He made that wonderful save in Prague from Lukas Masopust, and he’s rightly being regarded as one of the players of the season.

“Should he be going to the Euros with Scotland this summer?

“David Marshall was the big hero of the penalty shoot-out win in Serbia last November as Scotland qualified for the finals, but he is currently struggling with injury at Derby County.

“Whether or not McGregor fancies a return to the international set-up, he has definitely got the quality and experience.

“I think it’s a no-brainer. But it’s down to the national coach Steve Clarke and Allan himself to decide if he would like to finish his international career at the Euros.”

In normal circumstances you’d expect McGregor to tell Clarke to “poke it”, however, if David Marshall isn’t going to be fit then it is a call that should be made, there is only one Scottish keeper playing at the highest level and on form, however, we all know the Scotland manager’s opinion on Rangers so there is more chance of Craig Gordon – playing in the Championship – or Scott Bain – nowhere near international standard – lining up between the sticks.
