Caretaker manager Kenny McDowall has said that he honestly didn’t believe Rangers deserved to lose the game against Hibernian given the chances we created and how we basically dominated them, leaving them with only two shots on target – which they scored from.

Speaking to the Official Site after the game, McDowall explained.

‘I’m bitterly disappointed, mainly for the guys because I thought they were fantastic from start to finish. They get criticised for not giving effort but they left everything on the pitch and they should have taken something from the game. That’s the way it’s going, we seem to be getting punished for the least wee thing and anything we’re creating we can’t get the wee bit of luck at the opposite end.’

With the win for them seeing them replace us in second place, McDowall goes on to say that all we can do is keep working as hard as we are and he’s convinced if we do then our luck will change and that has been the message from him to the players.

‘It’s just getting the goal, it escaped us again and it will change.’

Ending his after match interview, McDowall picked out 20 year old Andy Murdoch for special praise following his first starting debut for the club.

‘It’s absolutely fantastic. It wasn’t my intention to single people out but Andy has been tremendous and I thought he went in and did a fantastic job. First and foremost he’s a fantastic footballer but he’s got energy about him in the middle of the park. He shuts things down quickly and does a great job.’

Vice skipper Lee Wallace was also speaking after the game and he admitted that we just hadn’t played well enough across the course of the season to believe we should be any higher in the league, we’ve let too many points slip and our performances just haven’t been right.

‘It’s deflating and it’s a bad period that we’re going through just now. It’s disappointing that Hibs have come here and probably underperformed but still beaten us two nil at home. We had a fair amount of chances and a fair amount of possession, the kind that we’ve not really had in some of the bigger games this season. That’s the sixth bigger type of game that we’ve played and we’ve lost it.’

Speaking more specifically about the season, he added.

‘Whilst we’ve maybe not played well enough in some of the bigger games, I don’t think that this season on the whole we’ve performed at anywhere near the level that we should be. We’ve fallen short on a lot of occasions. It’s not just been the big games, even though those are ones that Rangers are expected to win, it’s been outwith that. I might be being harsh, but I think that the season on the whole has been frustrating.’

Wallace did however echo the manager that the players would be working hard and doing all they could to try to turn this around for us.
