Lee McCulloch has said he’d be open to another switch around the park if manager Ally McCoist wanted him to.

The skipper played as a defensive midfielder in front of the two centre halves in our defeat to Ventura County Fusion on Tuesday, and it was a very unfamiliar role for the 36 year old who last played there back in the 2011-12 season.

However with Rangers adding both Marius Zaliukas and Darren McGregor to our defensive unit, there is obviously more competition for places and Jig has said that if McCoist wanted him to, he’d embrace a return to midfield if needed.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, he explained.

‘I don’t know what to expect and that’s up to the manager but he knows I’ll play anywhere. I quite enjoyed it in midfield and if I’m honest, I feel all right after it. My fitness is good enough to play in that position. We’ll see how it goes. The squad is massive and I wouldn’t say anyone in it is guaranteed a game. If called upon, I’d be delighted to play wherever I need to. I’ve been changing positions my whole career and I’ve been doing it since I was 17.’

McCulloch goes on to say that having a versatile bone, he feels it can only help somebodies game because it gives you different perspectives on the pitch, different perspectives of what opponents might do in certain positions and it can only help somebodies understanding of the game and at his age, he has plenty of that to his name.

Certainly gives options to shake things up in the coming year.
