Ross McCrorie has walked through the exit door at Ibrox with the news that Aberdeen have signed the utility man in a surprise move after having a bid accepted by Rangers for the utility player.

The Daily Record had reported that the Scotland Under-21 international was heading to Pittodrie for a medical as he looks for the first-team football that he has told Steven Gerrard he craves.

McCrorie is very much the sort of player that will fit into Aberdeen’s style of play, a natural destroyer who does a lot of his best work out of possession, aggressive, athletic and capable of playing in three different positions, fans may not be happy with his destination, however, if the price is right, there is no point holding onto a player who isn’t contributing.

Rangers had knocked back at least one bid from fellow Premiership side Hibernian, rumoured to be around the £200,000 mark and the Gers gaffer gave an update on the player he once claimed could be a “future captain” and Greg Docherty’s respective situations after the weekend league fixture against Livingston:

“It’s not going to work for Greg at Rangers so we are waiting on his decision. Ross is close. Again, we’re waiting on a decision.”

The manager’s comments would suggest that both players had offers on the table and that it was down to them rather than waiting for bids to come in for them, McCrorie and Docherty have yet to feature in match-day squads this season which shows just how far out of the picture they had become with nine substitutes being allowed on the bench.

Is it time for McCrorie and Docherty to move on?

Yes

No

No

Just because the pair aren’t good enough to start for Gerrard, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t good players and Ross Wilson will still be looking for decent fees for the pair given the potential that they have demonstrated in the past and on respective loan spells – hopefully any money brought in will be re-invested into a box-to-box midfielder capable of contributing to the goals for tally, if the 0-0 draw with Livi revealed anything, it was that this remains a priority, before it is too late.
