Manager Ally McCoist has said that Rangers couldn’t have drawn much of a harder first round tie when the Petrofac Training Cup draw was made earlier today.

As fans know, we have been paired against relegated Hibernian at Ibrox on a yet to be determined date, and following how they ended the season and the changes the club have put in place with a new manager, McCoist knows they will be looking for a bright start to the season to try and put 2013-14 behind them.

Speaking to the Official Site after the draw was made, and we knew we would face the side – relegated for the first time in 15 years – the gaffer said.

‘It’s an incredible draw really when you think about it but at the same time it’s a great game and a big game. We’ll be played our two Edinburgh rivals in the early stages of the season and who would have thought that would be the case even just a couple of months from the end of last term?’

McCoist goes on to say that with Hibernian and Hearts joining the Championship for this season, it’s already created some fuss with Rangers coming up, but obviously the Challenge Cup is a competition we have a lot of disappointment from given how last season went in the final, so we’ll be looking to go one better this year as well despite what will be a difficult start.

‘We definitely want to do well in all the competitions, that’s what Rangers have been doing for well over 100 years. They go into every competition to win but our priority will always be a league.’
