Manager Ally McCoist has said that the only priority in tonight’s opening pre season game against Buckie Thistle is for the players to build on their pre season training levels so far and push their fitness that stage further.

Speaking to the Official Site McCoist said that with a focus on fitness, given the players have only been back in training for a week, he wasn’t too concerned about the result or the performance at this stage, but obviously we would still be looking for a positive result and a showing that game the fans something to cheer about.

‘It is quite early to be playing but we won’t be looking to play players for any more than 50 or 60 minutes at a time. It’s part of the training and the build up to play at this point and we might even play two teams for a half each, possibly in both games.’

Ahead of the game McCoist said he would be having the players out for a normal morning session, and then the players would be travelling to the ground.

‘I’d fully expect with most clubs at this stage, ourselves included, that the football might be a little bit rusty. Building fitness is by far and away the most important thing. Pre season, as I keep saying, is about peaking at the right time and that’s on the first day of the campaign. That’s what we’re hoping to achieve from being here and in North America and I don’t have any doubt we will do that.’

Tonight’s game against Buckie Thistle kicks off at 7.30pm at Victoria Park, and it is live on RangersTV for those that subscribe.
