Manager Ally McCoist has said that for a good hour in the game against Derby County he was very pleased with what he saw from the boys.

Ignoring the Bilel Mohsni issue, the gaffer spoke to the Official Site in a bit more detail about the game itself.

Acknowledging a poorer final half hour in the match at the iPro Stadium, the first hour certainly pleased the manager with us now so close to kicking off the season for real.

‘For an hour we were fine. We had a good chance with Airdy at the back post and Cammy Bell had a good save to make. Without being brilliant, I thought we did all right and we were certainly competing as well as Derby for that period. We lost two goals which were poor defensively and then sending off killed the game. All in all, we’re happy enough.’

McCoist goes on to say that with Derby challenging so close for promotion to the Premier League last season, and with them being firm favourites to achieve it this season, he feels you have to factor in their quality and he says easily they were the best side we have faced this summer, so it was a great test overall that we can take lots out of.

Hibernian in the Petrofac on Tuesday and then Hearts in the Championship on Sunday.

Nice to know the season is here properly now, and hopefully we get the start we want.

‘They’re both against teams most people will see as being our main challengers for the automatic promotion slot, so it’s a big week for us.’
