Ally McCoist has said that not only must new signings be talented enough to help take us to the next level, they must have the right attitude and gel with the squad.

Following news that Nacho Novo has said he is keen on a return to Rangers – and Richard Gough has said age shouldn’t be a barrier – McCoist also commented that he would have no problem bringing back familar faces but only if the deal was absolutely right for the club.

Speaking to the Official Site the manager said.

‘We’re trying to find players to fit the situation we’re in but at the same time we have to get out of the league. That’s the job. We won’t be here if we don’t win the league, it’s about getting the balance though.’

McCoist admits that not all the fans have so far been onside with some of the signings he has made, but he defends that by pointing out that they did win the league comfortably, however he also accepts that as not every signing has been as influential as some others, he believes they will all be better for the experience of this season and push on further in our Division 2 campaign.

He also appreciates that we need for our new Division 2 challenge better quality signings with a higher standard to help bring up our current level.

As for the Nacho Novo issue, McCoist said he was open to the idea but they’ll meet Monday and he’ll have a better idea if it’s something he’ll want to progress.

‘I’m pretty open about it. I haven’t seen the wee man but I’ll get the chance to on Monday and I’ll see how he’s looking and we’ll have a chat. I haven’t taken any steps on it.’

McCoist says that he’s been at the club whenever he’s been back home and he knows he’s always welcome to come into the club, see the staff, even train, but Monday he’ll be playing and whilst no plans have been made, they’ll take it from there and see how the ground lies.

McCoist does concede however that Novo’s previous experience of Rangers, the expectations and desires of the fans as well as knowing exactly what is expected of somebody who pulls on the shirt is a massive plus in his favour.
