Ally McCoist has said he thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s friendly against Linfield and he was delighted with the impact of the youngsters he selected.

Chris Hegarty opened the scoring after 40 minutes which led to a bizarre Gangnam Style dance with Ally McCoist on the touchline, but the friendly gave Ally the perfect time to give some youngsters a run out, with Andy Murdoch grabbing our second after he was introduced in the second half.

Speaking to the Official Site following the win, McCoist said.

‘It was great and I was really keen actually to get our young ones on in the second half. I thought it was a great education for them and it was a really big learning curve. I thought they did fine, you just hope that is the first of many appearances for a few of them.’

McCoist adds that with injuries mounting up it’s possible a number of them will be called on in the coming weeks.

The fact that Kal Naismith was our oldest player on the pitch come full time, at 21 years old, the fact Rangers need to strengthen in the summer wasn’t lost on McCoist, but he still preferred to focus on the game being a moment of thanks to Linfield for their support of the club.
