Manager Stuart McCall has called on the players to take all the confidence they can from the two nil victory over Hibernian yesterday.

Goals from Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller gave us a first win of the season over Hibernian, and put us within three points of them with a game in hand in the Championship table.

The victory obviously cemented Hearts as Champions and secured their promotion to the Premier League, but rebalancing the season’s statistics somewhat against them could be vital come any play off battle as we continue to look for promotion ourselves.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, McCall explained.

‘I said to the lads if they can`t be confident after a performance like that they`ll never be. We won`t get carried away though, our feet are still on the deck. We`ve shown today what we can do and if we play like that and continue to play like that we`ll be a match for anyone.’

McCall went on to say that it wasn’t just a solid team performance though, he was very impressed with some of the individual performances on the day – especially stepping up to defend when Hibernian were looking to get back on level terms and build the momentum in their direction.

‘We defended when we needed to. We got around the middle of the park with energy and the goal sums it up with the two wing backs in Lee Wallace and Darren McGregor both being in the six yard box. We went with energy in the wide areas with McGregor and Wallace. The same in the middle of the park with Shiels, Law and Murdoch, and Kenny and Clarky give you everything. I think we needed to match Hibs in that today because it`s something they have in abundance.’

McCall on to say though that take the confidence yes, but it’s only a start and there is a lot of room for improvement still, but hopefully that improve will come easier with the confidence boost and the win back under our belts.
