Rangers will face an uphill battle in the race to sign Zinedine Ferhat following reports that Marseille have made an offer for the Algerian international.

Speculation has continued that the Gers are still monitoring the player, current with Nimes who were relegated from the French top tier last season.

St Etienne and Strasbourg have also been linked to the 29-year old with his club said to be holding out for a fee of around £3.4 million.

However, GetFrenchFootball have reported on the move by Marseille in what is certain to be an attractive proposition to Ferhat:

Ligue 1 side Marseille are in advanced talks with 28-year-old Algerian winger Zinedine Ferhat, to sign him from relegated side Nîmes.”

“He has another 12 months on his contract, having scored 6 goals and provided 9 assists last season with Les Crocos.”

The lack of a sell-on fee prospect with this type of signing casts doubt on whether Rangers interest will be genuine.

In recent times, that is not how Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard work, as has been evidenced.

Not every move will follow the same pattern but it appears unlikely at this time that Rangers will be spending a few million on a player profile like Ferhat.
