It is bad enough dropping any points but when Rangers lose and especially early on a Saturday, it puts a downer on the rest of the weekend.

As has been the case since the full-time whistle was sounded at Tannadice, the mistakes, poor play and negative points (there were several of them) have been pored over, highlighted, cursed and such is modern life, amplied severely on social media.

Any Rangers defeat has the alarm bells ringing, but two in quick succession…

After the defeat in Malmo last week, softened by Steven Davis’ late strike, it felt as if a reaction would be guaranteed to follow against Dundee United.

It never came – a further changed Gers side was flat, lacked spark, incision and quality and we got what we deserved from the game, nothing.

There is no time to dwell but now there is added pressure on the next game in Tuesday’s mammoth Champions League qualifier against Malmo with the aggregate score sitting at 1-2.

Come Monday morning, the full focus will be on the upcoming game with the added bonus of Ibrox hosting a capacity game for the first time since March 2020.

The players will be determined to deliver the performance that they are capable of – with a raucous, reverberating Ibrox set to give them maximum support – that presence will be acutely felt by the team.

The last two games haven’t been good enough, that is clear.

It is early season domestically, there are issues around the team affecting player availability and importantly in regard to Tuesday night’s match, there is more than enough quality and capability in the Rangers squad to ensure that the Scottish champions proceed to take on Olympiacos or Ludogorets in the Playoff round.

Thankfully, the weekend and its disappointment is now all but behind us – a reaction in the European arena is now expected and we don’t have long to wait to find out if it materialises.
